OKRA DANCE COMPANY entertains and enlightens audiences in interactive and culturally diverse programs that tell the stories of people and culture through a variety of world and folk rhythmic dances, and American and African American
social and vernacular styles.
OKRA is composed of accomplished professional dancers, musicians and experienced teachers of African descent with experience on Broadway, in touring theatre, with renowned recording artists, and well-known contemporary and jazz dance
companies around the country.
Relocating its base to Chicago in 2023, the company performs and facilitates residencies for youth and multigenerational audiences throughout the United States, and still maintains an active presence in the NY tri-state area, where
we were based for 10 years. Pre-COVID we presented up to 100 public and private performances a year in schools; museums and libraries; community festivals and outdoor celebrations; and local and national civic, justice and sovreignty
events.
